Aldous Huxley once observed about Belize, “It is not on the way from anywhere else." This relatively untouched corner of the world has a lot to offer. From the excitement and adventure of fishing, scuba diving, hiking and kayaking to relaxation of sandy beaches, laid back locals, and family owned restaurants and bars. Placenica, one of the last affordable places in the Caribbean, is free from the commercialism that is apparent it the tourist traps around the rest of the area. Best of all, this out-of-the-way paradise really isn't well... that far out-of-the-way. Belize has many flights directly from the US and Canada.
About Placencia Village:
The village of Placencia lies on the tip of the 16 mile Placencia Peninsula and has a long history as a fishing village. Now a days, the village is well known for it's very laid-back, no-shoes ambiance where locals go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your visit. The beaches in this small community are considered the best beaches on the mainland.
Every small town needs a small main street and Placencia has the distinction of having the the narrowest main street in the world. The one mile concrete path was originally constructed over 30 years ago as a means of wheel-barrowing fish around without fighting the sand. Now the walkway is where you will find a number of village's best restaurants/bars, and shops.
From Placencia many Nature Attractions include exploring the Monkey River, traveling inland to the Cockscomb Basin, or visiting Maya Ruins. You can Kayak nearby Mangroves or paddle out to one of the many nearby Cayes. Placencia is world-renowned for offshore Fishing and of course a trip to Placencia wouldn't be complete without a boat ride out to the Cayes for some Diving or Snorkeling off Belize's pristine and uncrowded Barrier Reef.... or just stretch out and relax in a hammock on a white sandy beach. The hardest thing to do might be to choose your next activity.
